Saddleworth is the collective name for an area of several villages and picturesque countryside
to the east of Oldham in the Pennine hills on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border.
Historically within the most westerly part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Saddleworth reluctantly became part of Oldham, Greater Manchester, in the 1974 local government reorganisation,
but still continues to regard itself as 'within the historic County of York'.
The area boasts a vibrant wealth of music activity, including choirs, operatic societies,
and brass bands, and we are proud to be a part of this.

Did you know that as well as the satisfaction and 'camaraderie' involved, singing in a choir also has scientifically proven health benefits?
A national newspaper article in April 2016 highlighted research published in the "ECancer Medical Science" journal. This shows that singing significantly increases levels of immune proteins which
the body uses to battle serious illnesses, and dramatically reduces stress hormones such as cortisol.
The research was also qouted as concluding that doctors believe this takes strain off the immune system, allowing it to use its resource better!!
