DORIAN KELLY - Musical Director
Our Musical Director, appointed in March 2014, is Dorian Kelly. Educated at Reading
Grammar School, Dorian went on to study trumpet and piano at the Royal College of
Music Junior Department (part-time), followed by Trinity College of Music (full-time).
After leaving college he worked as an instrumental music teacher and a
freelance trumpet player (with performance credits including Frank Sinatra,
Shirley Bassey, Neil Diamond, Jamie Cullum, The Temptations and The Drifters).
In 2005 Dorian relocated from Berkshire to Yorkshire and switched his attention
to composition. Since then he has composed and recorded the music for over 30
short films, animations and documentaries and has had 200+ media music tracks published,
resulting in usage in the UK, USA, Canada, Norway, Portugal, Czech Republic, Finland,
New Zealand & Singapore, including Sky 1, Sky 2, Discovery Channel, Lion TV, Living TV,
including BBC 2 & BBC 1Xtra, and Radio.
In 2010 Dorian returned to studying and completed an ALCM (Composition) in 2011, followed by an LLCM (Composition) in 2012, as an external student with the London College of Music. During this time Dorian composed numerous choral works (SATB, SSA & TTBB), ensemble arrangements and several music-based educational resources, which are published on his own web site www.modalmusic.biz .
Dorian is also the Musical Director of Chapel-en-le-Frith Ladies Choir and the Halifax Cube Choir.
He works as an examiner for Edexcel (Music Technology), and Trinity College London (Rock & Pop syllabus), and is a brass teacher for Hope Bank Works and Bradford Music Service (including working with groups of hearing impaired children).
ELAINE CHAPMAN - Accompanist
Elaine joined the choir's musical team in September 2014, having previously
'deputised' as a rehearsal accompanist on several occasions.
She obtained an honours degree in early years education (specialising in music)
at Manchester Polytechnic, and gained her LTCL piano teaching diploma.
She has been playing the piano since the age of nine, and has also played the
recorder and guitar.
She has always loved working as an accompanist, playing for her school choir when at high school, and accompanying students for auditions, exams and concerts.
She has worked with Mossley, Dukinfield, and New Mills Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Societies, and the Woodley Players, together with her husband Dave who is a well-known local musical director, composer/arranger and trumpet player.
She plays keyboard in the Broadway Big Band, which is based in Greenfield, plays viola with the Gorton Philharmonic Orchestra, and was church organist at St John’s Church in Dukinfield for over 25 years.
Elaine lives in Mossley with Dave, and works as a nursery teacher. They have two grown up daughters and two granddaughters.
LOUISE BRENNAN - Accompanist
Louise joined Saddleworth Male Voice Choir’s musical team in
May 2012 and brings with her a wealth of experience as an accompanist,
piano teacher and performer.
She is in great demand by choirs, soloists, exam students and many operatic
societies in the Greater Manchester area. She has accompanied a
number of school choirs and Oldham Music Centre choirs in concerts
and festivals. Louise is also a very busy piano teacher and church organist
and is accompanist for The Oldham Choir, and for Saddleworth Musical Society.
Away from music Louise works as a PA to a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon running a busy
clinical and medico legal Practice in Manchester. Louise is married to Graham
and they have three grown up children.
